The 2012 DNC in Charlotte, NC is over and the Twitter stats are in:

Barack Obama – 52,757 tweets/min.
Michelle Obama – 28,003 tweets/min.
Bill Clinton – 22,087 tweets/min.

9.5 million tweets during the DNC

Most tweeted moment during President Obama acceptance speech:

43,646: “I’m no longer just the candidate, I’m the President.”
39,002: “I will never turn Medicare into a voucher.”
38,597: Discussing Medicare
37,694: “We don’t think government can solve all our problems…”
34,572: Quips about the Olympics and “Cold War mind warp.”

So what does all of this have to do with your down-ticket campaign? Maybe more than you think. Twitter followers witness the instantaneous heart of the nation sentence by sentence during the speeches. The Time Warner Cable Arena was pulsating with excitement. The Twitter universe was on fire!

“I’m no longer just the candidate, I’m the President,” was tweeted 43,646 per minute.  The instantaneous heart of the twitter universe went ballistic which on the surface seems ridiculous because everyone knew who he was. But at that moment President Obama owned it and the nation loved it. They needed to hear it.

Running for office?  “Own who you are.” Say it. Repeat it. Live it.
